Guide to the care of linen

Whilst hired linen is in your care you are responsible for ensuring that it is not damaged in any way. The following guide is to help you prevent expensive damage to the cloths.

Damp Cloths: Damp linen is very susceptible to mildew, which can ruin a cloth within a few hours, particularly in the heat. Ensure that wine soaked, wet or damp cloths are not folded or stored in plastic bags, as mildew and 'rainbow' staining will form permanent damage to the material, which cannot be removed. If the cloths are damp we recommend that they be left on the table to dry out. Mildewed and 'rainbow' stained cloths will be charged at the full replacement cost.

Candle Wax Stains: Coloured candle wax contains strong dye, which will permanently stain linen. To avoid this damage you are strongly advised to provide protection from spitting and running wax. Stained cloths will be charged at the full replacement cost.

Writing and Drawings: In most cases cannot be laundered out and will ruin cloths. We suggest you give your guests paper on which to doodle. Damaged cloths will be charged at the full replacement cost.

Burns: Cigarettes, matches, candles and table fireworks will cause serious damage to linen, which cannot be invisibly repaired. We suggest that adequate numbers of ashtrays are provided. Burnt cloths will be charged at the full replacement cost.
